Cure: Hvar

We had an amazing birthday dinner for Mel on the little island of Hvar in Croatia.  They served strong herbal brandy to start the meal, then pieces of carob grown on the island before the appetizers.

We shared a bottle of a dry white wine from the Paship vineyards, gnocchi with squid ink and truffle oil, a stew with polenta and some local fish, and a traditional Croatian pastry for dessert filled with walnuts and crushed rose petals.

Cure: Oysters at Taylor Shellfish Farms Capitol Hill, Seattle

I recently had the most amazing Kumomato oysters at the Capitol Hill location of Taylor Shellfish Farms.  They were celebrating their anniversary by serving grilled, steamed and raw shellfish for local residents.

They have a great selection of local wines, champagnes and microbrews to compliment their incredible Oyster selection. Aaron also tells me they have excellent chowders, which I haven’t tried.
